UniSat Wallet Recovery and Key Concepts
This guide helps you understand the fundamental concepts of private keys and seed phrases, and provides practical instructions on how to recover your UniSat wallet in specific situations.
What Are Private Keys and Seed Phrases?
Seed Phrase
A seed phrase (or recovery phrase) is a human-readable representation of your private key, typically consisting of 12 or 24 random English words. It serves the same purpose as the private key and should be treated with the same level of security.
- With your seed phrase, you can restore your wallet and recover all your assets.
- Anyone with access to your seed phrase can take full control of your wallet.
- It is critical to keep it private and stored securely (preferably offline, on paper).
Best Practices for Seed Phrase Management:
- Back it up immediately after creating a wallet.
- Do not take screenshots or store it on cloud drives.
- Write it down and store it in a secure, offline location.
- Double-check the words and their order for accuracy.
Private Key
A private key is a unique 64-character hexadecimal string that grants control over a blockchain wallet. It is the cryptographic proof required to sign transactions and move funds.
- Think of it as the password to your blockchain bank account.
- Whoever possesses the private key controls the wallet and its assets.
- If lost, access to the wallet and all associated funds is permanently lost.
Because private keys are difficult to remember and risky to write down, wallets often provide a seed phrase as an easier alternative.
🔒 Remember: Losing your seed phrase or private key means losing access to your assets forever.
