Runes
Runes is a fungible token protocol built natively on Bitcoin. It aims to provide a simple, efficient, and UTXO-friendly way to issue and transfer fungible tokens on Bitcoin, without requiring off-chain infrastructure or complex indexers. Runes defines a method for creating and transferring fungible tokens on Bitcoin using standard transaction fields like OP_RETURN.
Simple: The protocol logic is minimal and does not rely on external systems.
On-chain: All state and transfer data are embedded within Bitcoin transactions.
UTXO-native: Assets are stored and moved through Bitcoin’s native UTXO structure.
UniSat provides full protocol-level support for Runes, including:
Mint & Etch Runes: Users can define new Rune tickers(etch) or mint runes through UniSat Inscribe
Wallet Integration: Rune balances and transactions are supported directly in the UniSat Wallet, enabling send and receive functions
Marketplace: UniSat's marketplace enables the trading of Runes tickers through UniSat Marketplace
Explorer: Users can browse Rune assets, holders, and activity via the Rune section of UniScan
